Performing Diwali pooja according to Vastu


'Diwali' a festival of tradition and culture that not only expels darkness however makes the relationships more strong. It is an eve which celebrates the celestial power over earthly ills and to gain maximum profit on this day people worship Goddess Laxmi and Lord Ganesh. On this eve lights and different earthen lamps are kindled as an embodiment of power and brightness which dispels the darkness. This day can be more auspicious if you offer your prayers according to Vastu. Vastu Shastra is a science which tells you about the directions so today we will let you know the basic steps of proper pooja which you can follow to gain wealth, success and prosperity on the eve of Diwali.
  • The appropriate place is the north-east corner of the building and if not then the north-east corner of the room in house and central portion or garden or lawn of other buildings.
  • The prayer should be done in this way so that one must face East/North while praying.
  • During the pooja, a lamp with pure ghee should be lit in front of goddess Laxmi.
  • Goddess Laxmi rules money and the North is the direction for money, so her idol should be placed in north side of worship room.
  • Laxmiji should always be on the right hand side of Ganeshji.
  • Sitting idols/pictured of gods/goddess are preferred over standing ones.
  • The size of the idol should not be more than 10'.
  • Always lit a candle in the Southeast of the house.
  • One must use copper/silver utensils while worshipping.
  • In today's world, the 'traditional oil lamp(diya) is replaced by candles/wax diyas. However the earthern lamp kindled with mustand oil is considered very auspicious.
  • You must make sure that you have all the five elements with you, that is, water(jal), fire(diya), earth (earthen lamp), air (agarbatti), and space (dhoop). Without these no pooja is complete.
  • If you are keeping account books in the pooja, they should be put in Northwest side of the person performing.
  • The silver/gold coins should be put in the North direction of the place.
  • In the worship area, sesame oil is also used which is considered auspicious for the pooja.
  • The time of Diwali poojan is an important aspect which must be taken care of and if pooja is done on time, the benefits gets multiplied.
