Vastu guidelines to put Lights and Rangoli


The lights

Diwali the festival of lights is celebrated all over India with all joy and brightness which lights bring in our life. Though the festival is all about Laxmi Ganesh pooja- the utmost important for people yet lights are the second most priority which should be illuminated in order to get rid of darkness. Diwali kindle with the lighted diyas which bring celestial joy intended to find light in darkness which will spread love amidst ignorance.

In the changing days Diwali celebrations have become contemporary with the changing times. Only a decade or two people used to light up their homes with earthen lamps and simple candles which looked traditional and celestial. As today things get alter and people doesn't want to illumine those old traditional diyas with oil and wick, instead they have brought different kind of lights which also appear good and kindle the whole world.

  • Traditionally Hindus illumine earthen diyas with cotton wicks and oil to light up the night of this day.
  • Colored bulbs, halogens, traditional lamps such as handy lamp, antique lights have become the choice of people for lighting.
  • Electronic lights which are available in market today are more saleable than anything else.
  • Apart from electronic lighting which is attracting people candles have also become the source of light.
  • Scented decorative candles offer a wide choice for people and they also come in designer look to exemplify flower shaped, heart shaped and floating candles in soft hues.
Lighting according to Vastu

Lighting colours should Red, Blue, Orange, Green, White and Yellow. These are main hues which can be used in lights to brighten your place and spirit. There are some basic rules of direction in which you can use these specific colours either in light or rangoli:
  • If the main door lies in North/Northeast, then the dominating colours should be Green/Yellow.
  • If the main door is in the East direction, then Yellow is the colour.
  • The main entrance in Southeast should be enhanced by Red colour.
  • South/Southwest/West direction main doors should use the combination of Red & Blue colours.
  • In Northwest, the main colour should be Blue.
The Rangoli

Making rangoli on diwali is an ancient trend using different colour to make a design and welcome guests. Rangoli is basically made on the main entrance to welcome everybody. It exudes a specific pattern in colour. The designs of rangoli should be ethnic which exudes a sense of endlessness of time. Heavenly symbols such as moon, star and other signs are common in themes for rangoli.
  • The rangoli designs encourage the positive energy to enter the house.
  • Today terracotta pots are gaining much popularity as they are placed in rangoli with candles and oil lamps to give it a different look.
  • The colours used in making rangoli can be easily bought from market and you can also use some common spices and other food material which is easily available at home.
  • The raw material used for rangoli other dry colours are rice, gram flour, wheat flour, pulses, roli, haldi powder and vermillion which is considered auspicious.
Enhancing Rangoli with Vastu
  • It should be noted that readymade rangoli on which Laxmi Ganesh are made should not be placed on doorsteps as it is inauspicious.
  • The symbols like swastika/Om should not be made in the rangoli on the floor.
  • The footprints depicting Laxmiji entrance should be in the direction of going in the house not coming out.
  • The colours of the Rangoli should be followed as the colours of lights.
  • With proper colour and light in appropriate direction according to vastu will enhance your chances of wealth, success and prosperity.
